In this episode’s ‘Tales From the Coaching Front’ segment, I tackle the question ‘Can you accomplish your goals in life without relying on willpower?’ To do this, I look at one of my clients struggles with weight loss and self-control. In order to help, I tried to change her mentality on willpower and make it more than just an inability to control her urges.
You see willpower is actually a depletable resource, and so it can be very difficult to sustain a change in behavior, especially if you’re going to kick yourself every time you eat a piece of cheesecake that you shouldn’t have. Instead, I’ll show you how to approach these moments as a set of choices that when viewed in this way make it much easier to stay on track and accomplish your goals.
And during our “Ask Coach Pamela” segment, we hear from Nikki who is wondering if she should give up a full-time job that provides her financial stability for the opportunity to fulfill a long held dream of pursuing a career in dance. Even if you don’t want to make this kind of radical change, the questions that Nikki has to ask herself are important exercises everyone should review before switching careers.
