I am so thrilled to be back. I missed you all. Although I have to say it was lovely to be able to take a break over the month of August. It wasn’t really a break from work, it was just a break from creating podcast episodes. The opportunity of taking that kind of break is that allowed me to take a step back, look at what I was doing, how I’d created this and to provide a space for reinvention.

You all know I teach that reinvention as a tool for evolving. It’s a practical life skill. It’s not a one and done kind of process. But it’s a tool that you pull out when you are wanting to create something more. One of the big questions of reinvention is, “How do I know if I’m going to like where I’m headed?”

If you’re thinking about moving towards getting a new job or some other kind of major change or shift that you’re contemplating, one of the big issues is: “I’m going to do all this work, then I’m going to get there and I’m not going to like it.” Reinvention as a practical skill allows you to do two things. One, it allows you to test. Second, it allows you to do is tweak.

Testing means that you have to test your beliefs, you have to test your assumptions about whether or not you’re going to enjoy where you’re headed. That involves talking to natives if you’re looking for a job or looking at how other people are doing things. You are testing your ideas, testing your beliefs. The key to all of this is allowing yourself to tweak your results because it’s not possible to 100% know whether or not something’s going to be a hit until we’re there. That’s why often in career reinvention we suggest volunteering because that gives you a feel for what it’s going to be like without making the final permanent commitment. Then you can say, “Hey, this is a great fit for me” or it’s not.

In this case, the case of this podcast, I took the first half of this year to create something and test it in a way that I thought would be great for me. What this hiatus allowed me to do was to take a step back and look at how I’ve been doing it and see was there a way to tweak what I was doing?

The answer to that question is, “Yes! There is!” We are on a reinvention journey and the podcast is changing. I promise you that this is going to be a good thing because this change is born from tuning into what is the biggest and best for me.
